making "mr. and mrs. traveler" flatties...

Post by Howard »

greetings to all...

just couldn't resist making a couple more "flatties"...these were inspired by a couple in a set of vintage model railroad figures from way, way back...probably pre wwll vintage...although there have been reissues by a couple of makers since then...

one of the projects i have in the works for 2016 will be a small railroad station...and perhaps a few more "flatties" to use around the station...probably a porter, conductor and an engineer...

have a great new year...

my very best regards...howard...

back then, it would have been called a "valise"...today, i guess we'd call it a "carry on"...

i may add a piece of luggage to mrs. travler...perhaps a "hat box" or a "train case"...

Howard,
Those are incredibly detailed flatties. Of all the things you show on this forum, the flatties look the most difficult to me. Do you cut them out with an 11 blade? And you may have gone over it in a previous post, but how to do mount them to your paint sticks? Mostly I paint my fingers as they are the paint sticks for me.

We look forward to seeing Mr. and Mrs. Traveler on their way.

Lucy...

correct...#11 xacto...but the blade must be sharp...note...i also wear a magnifying visor or a pair of 3.00+ reading glasses...

painting sticks are pictured below...about 5/8" square by 6" long...flatties are held on with a dab of hot glue...i gently peal the flattie base from the top of the stick when finished priming, painting, detailing, clear coating and adding glitter on the snow...

my very best regards...howard...

I'm enjoying seeing your 'flattie' collection grow. I especially like the layered effect on your figures.
