Greetings to all…

I’ve been AWOL from the forum for more than a few days…my internet was out for about a week…and I’ve been in a little house “summer slump”…but things are looking up…thanks to John Lloyd Wright…yes…John Lloyd Wright…

While searching for inspiration, I ran across the history of “Lincoln Logs”…I’m not going to post all the details other than these links…

I had not built a “loggie” in quite a while…so here’s my latest…it’s based on the simple, classic cottage that got me started making little houses…and the images I found of vintage Lincoln Log structures…

I'll explain the gray single-face cardboard and yellow poster board later...

Another great start!

greetings to all...

making progress...roof is attached and covered with individual cardboard shingles and a ridge cap...

chimney is covered with individual bricks made from small pieces of folded cardboard...

the chimney will not be attached until the painting is finished...

this project may end up much brighter than you might expect...it may have a high gloss, "toy train" look...

but can still be used in a village if i sprinkle on a coat of artificial snow flakes...

regarding the yellow poster board...that's the only color i had when i laminated the single-face cardboard to it...

besides, the yellow will add an extra "warm glow" through the windows when the lights are on...

the gray on the single-face is a coat or spray primer...

i always prime single-face before painting since moisture in craft paint can cause the flutes to come off the backing...

good afternoon...

loggie is primed and ready for paint...base is awaiting primer and finish...

post and rail fence is assembled with glue...but not permanently glued in the base...that will be done later...makes it a lot easier to paint the fence...

Howard, I hate to keep posting "How does he DO that?" posts. But how do you DO that? VERY nice.

here is the finished "loggie"...was going to spray with a gloss finish...but decided not to do so...i'm very pleased with the colors...

you will notice a slight amount of sand in the finish which adds a little texture and surface interest...

it does have more of a vintage "toy train look" than a "putz"...but with a sprinkling of artificial snow it will blend right in...

i've placed it beside many of my little glitter houses...it really does not look out of place...

base measures about 5 1/2" x 7 1/4" x 5/8" thick...total height is about 5 1/2" including the base...

i'm working on a figurine for the front yard...will be a while before i finish and decide if it looks right...
