HUGE, nearly architectural, custom "glitter house"...

Post by Howard »

Greetings to all...

I spent almost every minute of shop time during the entire month of October building this project...i worked from a dozen or so photos the client sent along with google satellite and street view images...the actual home is located in a north central state...

The base measures 12" x 18" x 5/8" thick...to keep the base nice and flat I laminated a sheet of 1/4" hardwood plywood between the layers of corrugated cardboard...overall height of the house, including the base, is about 4 3/4"...

The house is fully illuminated with four 6-volt lantern bulbs...the bulbs and sockets came from radio shack...a cell phone type charger supplies the power...Every square inch of the interior is painted white to reflect the maximum light possible...

I always tell myself I will keep track of the number of parts...but as usual...I don't ...perhaps next time...

My very best regards...

Howard...

Note...additional pix of the project will follow this initial group of three...

This is a whole different species! I didn't notice the "nearly architectural" title at first, but that seems perfect. Scale fidelity looks amazing. I am entirely blown away by this masterpiece. Completely incredible, and thanks so much for sharing you creation with us.

Amazing work Howard. I like yours better than the original! I am fascinated by your Hedge border you made. Is it made of sponge or what? Tom

tom...

the hedge is made from a pack of green "pot scrubber pads" from the dollar store...to make this hedge thicker, i laminate two layers of pad together with white glue to form a long strip...the joints were alternated just like laying bricks...had to weighted them down while drying...then cut into strips using a craft knife to cut the bottom and pinking shears to cut the top...you can also rough up the top edge with a coarse rasp...to add variety i sprayed the hedge strips with a few different shades of green...white glue holds them in place on the base...some blushes of white paint, white craft glue, glitter, mica flakes and snow-tex complete the hedge...i have a few pix of the process somewhere....if i can find, i will post...

my very best regards...howard...
