I'm gonna have to wait too! I've ended up with three Nativity sets and it would be a little rough taking them all out and displaying them right now. The wife is on me to take the Christmas stuff down - not put more stuff up :-)

I'm slowly but surely dismantling Christmas at my house. Today I did the Fontanini nativity and took some close-ups of individual scenes. I thought you might like to see this because the carpenter's shop was created for me by Howard Lamey http://www.littleglitterhouses.com

I thought you might enjoy seeing this little plastic creche--about 4 X 4 inches--still bearing its original Woolworths price sticker of 19 cents and marked 1969. For a little plastic thing, it has a remarkable amount of detail. Made in Japan.

Man-oh-man, does that look familiar! It's not just the Nativity scene but there's a voice in the back of my head (don't be jealous because the voices only talk to me :-) ) but I remember that thing! Did I have one? Did someone in the family have one? arrrrrgh!

Thanks, Maria. Great link.
Also, the little plastic one was made in two versions. The Protestant version was painted, as shown in the photo above. The Catholic version had unpainted figures made of glow-in-the-dark plastic. If Baby Jesus didn't have an eerie green glow when you turned out the lights, you didn't have the "real" version. Just kidding about the Catholic/Protestant, but we got several of the glow-in-the-dark sets as gifts from Sacred Heart's CCD classes when we were little, and we always thought they glowed because they had been blessed by the priest. :-)

Oh Paul, I just saw your comment above. Boy did it make me smile. We had a small glow in the dark one I had completely forgotten about.

good afternoon...and merry christmas to all...

i recently acquired this rather large nativity set...(just what i need...something else to start collecting)...

it is stamped MADE IN ITALY on the back...base measures 18" x 9"...overall height is 13 inches...

all the figures are glued down...i think there may be an angel missing from the peak or on the back panel...

there is a hole in the back for a light and the panel is painted blue with drips of paint to represent stars...

the rough bark, dired moss base and very colorful figures make for a visually interesting piece...

howard...

At first glance, I thought the figure at the right was a cowgirl.

:-) ????
