Kitchen Putz 2018,Woolworth's,National Christmas Ctr. Homage

Please use this forum for photos of your putz villages - some of you don't make your own houses, but you still display a lot of artistry when you combine and arrange them. And the rest of us would love to see your work. Again, it works best if you resize your photos to 800px wide or less before you upload them - Paul

Kitchen Putz 2018,Woolworth's,National Christmas Ctr. Homage

Post by maria »

Woolworth's and the National Christmas Center--one is gone, the other is relocating elsewhere in Pennsylvania (it was going to close this year). Here's my homage to those long ago Christmas store displays....almost all vintage......

Marie, what a fun and colorful display. I spent some time perusing each item. As a child I used to buy a new piece for my nativity each year at Woolworths. I wish I had saved it.

Thank you all. I love collecting all the bits and pieces--by far my two favorite pieces are the tray of Christmas tree and deer pins--which I picked by at the Asbury Methodist annual spring tag sale for a song....followed by the faux toy cash register discovered at a tag sale for five dollars. It was an absolute mess and is a vintage copy of one made as a souvenir from a roadside museum.

Nearly everything is vintage--but there's a lot of illusion going on too....the "hard candy" container and the ribbon candy box are both new--I just kept the boxes---and the noma lights box is just the box panel I could salvage--the bubble light box is from new Radko bubble lights....the Woolworth sign is one I created myself based on an original and "aged". Here's the pdf file if anyone wants it--prints on an 8 X 11 sheet

Thank you so much. I absolutely love putting this together every year. I wanted a REAL Woolworth's sign but they are a fortune--and even the small repros are costly...this one cost me less than two dollars to print, frame, and "age". I have a plan--like most days(!) to create a larger version for next year--but first I'd like to get the Sistine Chapel of permanently mounted track lighting platforms done! I have a wonderful train set that has only been out and running once! https://www.flickr.com/photos/22283683@ ... 2435773409

The National Christmas Center will reopen in 2021 in Elizabethtown, PA. (near Harrisburg/Lancaster.) Here's an article with some more details, for those of you interested: https://lancasteronline.com/news/local/ ... c90b0.html.
