Making Molds for Putz Figures

What kind of figures have been used with cardboard Christmas houses and villages, where do you get appropriate figures today, how do you make, prepair, repair or otherwise maintain figures?

Making Molds for Putz Figures

Post by Tom Hull »

I wanted to make the dog shown on this apartment building. It appears to be an original piece but cannot say for sure but anyway I wanted this funny little bulldog. So I started by modeling it from Sculpy and baking it. I then took some black silicone (natural rubber) and this one was intended as a cement for automotive gaskets but it works well for this purpose.

Making Molds for Putz Figures part 2

Post by Tom Hull »

As you can see the box cutter shows the cut down the back in the mold I made for ease of extraction of the figure. The second picture shows two dogs one the model and the other from the mold. This could have had wires inserted before they it up but I chose not to do this. The last picture shows the 2 dogs from the mold and the painted hand modeled one.

Did it affect the finish on the original dog?

Christmascrazy,

I think that the dog Tom used to make the mold was one he sculpted himself, and he used it to make the mold before he painted it.

I don't think Tom had access to the original dog.

"The Original Dog" has no relationship to the "Last Visible Dog" (ten points to anyone who recognizes that title without googling it).
