Little Yellow Coco

Post by BrianB »

Good Afternoon!

Thought I'd share my latest project. Well, it's one of three projects I started. This is the first though. The other two are related, one is a fix up of an original MIJ house, and I figured while I'm fixing it up, I may as well make one from scratch too. But I will start a new thread for that one.
This one is a house I wanted in my personal collection for a long time. I would see it now and again online, and thought it was one of the most charming houses, not as flashy as some...but charming! Then I finally got it in 2009 and was surprised at the size, I thought it was much larger. It's still one of my favorites, and it's small size has grown on me quite a bit!
So I decided to reproduce it. I am done with construction and ready to paint.
I had to make a new door for this house, it is similar to the PWD-4 that Ted sold and now Pete sells but it doesn't have the pink flower border around it. The white border around the door frame is yellow on this one, and the red panels are narrower. I was lucky my original is perfectly intact so I was able to make a perfect repro. See pics below.

Side note: Some of you may remember back in 2009, there was a house called the "Katrina" house(named this because of water damage to the house...I think) up for auction by a lady who was starting a restoration job, but then decided to sell it. That is who I purchased this little yellow coco from. Papa Ted loved the Katrina house, and the 3 of us had exchanged several emails about it. I was sent a pretty good front pic of it, and it is one of the houses I plan to repro at some point. If anybody knows the house and has pics, I would love to know what the sides of it look like! It had some pretty cool anomalies on it, one being a door way up where nobody could use it... atleast not without a ladder. I believe it was a green spot too.

Thank so much!!
-Brian

Thank you so much Howard, Lee, and Paul! I actually just finished this puppy up, pics tomorrow!

Howard, I can't remember if I ever saw it on Ted's site either...it might be in the Putz display section in a few peoples villages. Maybe it got overlooked do to its small size. It only measure 5 1/2 wide x 3 deep x 4 tall.

I think I've seen this house with blue roof instead of red too, would be a neat variation I may replicate at a later date.

Paul, I will get you a file of this door for the resource page. It's amazing new things keep popping up!

Brian...

Does the base on the vintage house show any signs of a luffa tree?
