1930'S WOOD BLOCK VILLAGE

Post by maria »

I thought you'd find these of interest, if only for the graphics; it's a 1930's set featured in a previous auction of SeriousToyz.com

here's my take on the vintage set...

take a look at the box lid...you'll see the houses are sitting on little green "plots of land"...

inside the box you will see two small rectangular compartments where the green "plots of land" were kept...

they were either cardboard or thin wood...these are also known as "BEER MAT HOUSES"...

see below...these wood block houses were probably home made...and the "plots of land" are beer mats painted green...

by painting details like walks, ponds, roads, etc on the beer mats an entire village could be arranged and re-arranged...

the perfect accessories for a toy train set...

i started making a set at one time...but only got as far as collecting the beer mats...

my very best regards...howard...
