"PLASTER" FINISH ON PUTZ HOUSES

Post by maria »

So over the weekend I found a little putz house at a tag sale--nothing special--a steal at ten cents--very late--and covered in that plastery finish so many of the houses have from way back.

I happened to show it to my Japanese friend and she said, oh it is covered in GOFUN----WHAT IS GOFUN I asked--she said that it was a staple of the doll making business for generations--that the dolls were made of gofun--some still are--apparently GOFUN is ground up oyster shells and glue

Only the best GOFUN--was used for the dolls--shiny white pure--the remaining "dull" bits were used for other things.

Just thought I'd pass it along.....
