the "lake house"...little glitter house version...

Post by Howard »

good morning...

here's a project i'm building for a family member...it's their lake house here in north florida...but done in snow and glitter...although we only get one record breaking snow event about every 100 years... the last was in 1989...

i've had to do the usual "selective compressing" and "squeezing" to make the finished piece a size that is suitable for display on a shelf or table...that small building is the well pump and storage building...i've added a fence to tie it all together...

the base measures about 7" x 9"...overall height is about 3 1/2" including the base...it will be illuminated with battery powered LEDs...more about that later...

my very best regards...howard...

good afternoon...

here is the LED (light emitting diode) illumination source for the lake house project...an off/on switch and a AA battery box (from radio shack) plus three very small, but very bright "warm white" LEDs (from http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/)...all the pieces are mounted on a cardboard and wood insert that is attached to the base with two small screws...more later...

I appreciate seeing the mechanism for lighting the house. The pump house fits in very well on a putz house - just like the little dog houses on the traditional houses. Is the little slot in the base behind the pump house where the switch goes? A house like this brings up summer memories of being a kid at the lake.

Lucy...

Yes...the little slot is here the switch projects through the base...the location had to be convenient...but kinda out of site...

I'm just about finished with the all the painting...just a few more details...and letting everything dry thoroughly...then the part I really enjoy...final assembly...

Really nice job you have captured all the details to a tee! What are the shrubs made out of and how did you make the fence?

Lynn,

The hedge is made from green color "dollar store" pot scrubber pads cut with pinking shears. The fence posts are 5/16 inch diameter wood dowels. The fence rails are bamboo skewers.

My very best regards,

Howard
