Just finished this house. I didn't love it at first, but then I got the base right and FINALLY made a really cool fence to enclose the yard and I think that makes the house. I say finally about the fence because I didn't use a commercial die to make it; I made it more like traditional Putz house fences.
I did use a Slate stencil that I showed on one of my posts for the Stone textured houses. Since this is a Halloween house I painted the mortar black for the spooky factor. I used a cardboard container that cat litter comes in to make the roof tiles. It is much like egg carton material, but with more material to work with. I tried a different chimney that I saw somewhere, needs a little perfecting, but I still like it.
I felt like I painted the base better to give the appearing of the house being on a hill. And then I really like my fence. I painted it with white gesso tinted with a little ochre and sand mixed in. I distressed it on the edges with some black paint.

All it needs is a HEARSE PARKING ONLY sign. It looks amazing, Lucy. Excellent creation.

What are the dimensions of it? It has a great Addams Family vibe!
Re: Newest Halloween House - the Slate House
BurghGal,
Welcome to the Cardboard Christmas Forum! Thank you for asking me about the Slate House. It's 3.25 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep and 6 inches tall without the chimney and about 7 inches tall with the chimney. The template I made it from is designed to be able to cut out a house out of one 8.5 x 11 inch piece of cardboard which is the easiest one for me to collect at work.
Howard, here is a photo of the kitty litter box - it's purina cedar cat litter. It has a fair amount of usable thick cardboard. I am planning on landscaping the house, but as always, I am debating how to do it. I am thinking about making a tiny owl flattie or two for the fence posts or for the chimney. I really want to make a pair of lions to sit on a fence post, but the detail is intimidating. I am also going to try to make a spooky bare-limbed tree with a wire armature and polymer clay. I need to make a bunch more pumpkins as well.

Lucy...
Thanks for info on the kitty litter...we have no cats now...and never will again...but I know who can use the litter...and I'll keep the container...
About the lions...if you can't find or make suitable ones yourself...consider this...I've seen miniature gargoyles in the dollar store in the past...I seem to remember there were three in a package...may not be available this season or too late for your plans...
