Fantastic, once again. Thanks for posting. Dumb question, is the outer fence hardware cloth? Cut-up berry boxes? Sorry - the scrounger in me wants to know.

paul, hello...

regarding the fence...yes...it's ordinary 1/4-inch hardware cloth...i've used it on several projects...and when i get a breather...(soon i hope)...i'll post a few pix of how it's cut and installed...until then...here's a closeup of the fence and the columns...

I'm speechless with envy, Howard. This house is very, very close in appearance to my son's house, which I gave up trying to replicate as a putz because of the complexity. Congratulations on an absolutely marvelous creation. And I echo the praise for your generosity in sharing the steps, as well as the techniques. Thank you so much.

regarding the "iron-look fence" made from 1/4-inch hardware cloth...

measure, cut, make and test fit all the pieces...

sections of hardware cloth are cut to fit between hollow cardboard columns...

columns are 1-inch tall x 1/2-inch square with a top that hangs over the column 1/16-inch...

file the top of the hardware cloth smooth to get rid of the sharp barbs...

wire tips are inserted into small holes in the columns and base...

work in sections starting at the gate opening, going across the front and up the sides to the back...

white craft glue holds everything in place...brush the glue into all the holes in the columns and the base...

(i like Aleene's Original Tacky Glue)...

Thanks for all your tips, Howard. I finally got some 1/4" hardware cloth (ordered online from Ace Hardware, picked up at my local Ace store) but I'm not sure what I'll do with 5 feet of it! At any rate, I'm experimenting with a couple of inches of it for fences and, perhaps, a ladder up my silo. (I do love making your barns, Howard.)
I hope Maria and everyone else is recovering from the hurricane/storm. Somehow I think Papa Ted had something to do with that storm. Or the storm had something to do with Papa Ted.
