good morning...i for one am enjoying watching the process...(since most of my projects are in "super slow motion grind" right now)...it really is amazing to see just how much surface detail there is on these "toys"...
speaking of spray paint...i guess you know my "favorites"...what ever is on sale...i especially like the gray primer that walmart sells...
i also have another new "favorite"...(i have been buying at ace hardware...and always looking for a coupon)...
it's called "rust-oleum painter's touch ultra cover 2x"...a ton of colors including clear...it does everything they claim...
my very best regrds...howard...here in north florida...and feeling a hit of cooler air this morning...

Re: Trashbashing
You're on to me, Howard. That IS Walmart's gray primer. Use to be .99 a can; now it's 1.19. Their black primer will be on the roofs of the storefront and townhouse before long. Sadly, they discontinued the "red" (rust-colored) primer, which has painted many of my buildings.
I've taken off the tape but it's after dark now, so I'll wait until daylight to get the full effect for the photos.
Just got Village d-Lights with the CC ad in it. This one has several nice articles about constructing displays, better than average IMHO.
Have a great October.

Here is the first playskool pair, unmasked:

Detail of the townhouse, after unmasking, before touch-up:
Isn't it wonderful what you can accomplish with $1 worth of masking tape and $2 worth of paint?

Getting ready to paint the roofs black.
Taping around the trim next to the roof to keep it gray.

Covering the rest with newspaper
Re: Trashbashing
Sprayed roofs with flat black, left alone for a couple hours, masking removed.
Re: Trashbashing
I've painted the other two playskool buildings. Photos to follow. I used rust primer on the second store so it's much browner than the store in the photos above.
The second townhouse was supposed to be a slightly different color than the first one, but, in spite of a different name on the label, and a slightly different colored lid, they're exactly the same. Guess I'll have to paint the doors different colors, and try to come up with something clever for the little labels over the doors.
I also repainted the roofs of the old ones (the ones I did back in the 1990s). The fronts need some touchup, which I can hopefully do while I'm painting the awnings, etc. on the new stores.
Then come signage.
Hope you all are getting some ideas out of this project, even if the result will be too big for your putz villages.
