I'm interested in knowing what cameras everyone uses to take pictures of their houses for posting. I currently use my husband's Nikon D90 in macro to take my pictures. I want to get a less expensive and simple camera for me, but I don't know if there is one to take a quality pic that is close enough. Thanks for any advice.

I have two low priced Nikon "point and shoot" Coolpix digital cameras...an L4 (2006 vintage) and an L22 (2010 vintage)...neither have all the bells and whistles...but with them, free "Picasa" photo processing software and Microsoft "Paint" I can do everything I'll ever need...they were priced under $90.00 each if i remember correctly...

I do take some pix with my three year old iPhone...(not bad images fron such a very tiny lens)...I could probably get by with only a smartphone and no camera if I had to do so...

Speaking of photography...Paul wrote a very informative article on digital cameras and photographic techniques a few years ago...I can't find the link to it...but perhaps he will post again...

I like the Canon SX150/170 series, because it has a viewfinder as well as a screen. I also have a much more expensive Canon I never use.

But the truth is a lot of cameras in the $150 range will do very nice photos for what we do. They're almost all over 10mega pixels which used to be the "holy grail" of digital cameras. A high-zoom camera will tend to have a better lens than a camera with only six-by zoom or so. Most of the zoom cameras will have some sort of anti-shake compensation. The article Howard alluded to is hopelessly out of date. In fact some cell phones take great photos as long as there's plenty of light. I like my bigger-lensed cameras because they also take good photos in low light. I almost NEVER use the flash. Hope this makes sense. - Paul

I also have a relatively decent smart phone, but it's not nearly as good for indoor photography as most $150+ digicams.

I got mine for $100 when Target closed them out, so you might be able to pick up a deal on something in this price range. In fact I got my sister the CX160 for $150 on a closeout, too. At any rate, I take a LOT of photos with the thing and I'm seldom disappointed.
