A "glitter" mixture I have been using...and really like...

It’s very simple…try 2 parts glitter, 2 parts mica flakes and 1 part sand…every batch I mix changes but the results are the same…

1. Sulyn brand “Scintillements” crystal glitter #6634-09…(from Hobby Lobby)…but any clear glitter will work…

2. Mica flakes…(from an on-line craft supply vendor)…

3. White craft sand #55078…(from Hobby Lobby)…

The mixture does three things…the glitter sparkles…the mica flakes add vintage charm…the sand add a fine texture…

Never underestimate the power of sand and real mica in a mix! Plus it has the added value of hiding any construction "flaws", lol!

I just made a test batch of this type of glitter and I must say I am impressed! I used an old electric coffee grinder to break up the mica flakes into smaller pieces. The finish is much like the glitter on the original houses; those that aren't coconut that is... Howard, you are amazing and so generous with your knowledge. Thank you!

Lee...update...I'm starting to leave the white sand out of the mixture...just going with glitter and mica...thanks for the tip about the coffee grinder...going to try that soon...I see them at yard sales all the time...

Also going to try adding a generous pinch or two of the "diamond dust" (or something similar) that Maria mentioned and see how that works...
