From glitter to coconut

I made this glitter house from a picture that I saved many years ago. Before I finished this house I noticed that Antoinette’s site had a house very similar just a few minor difference but the basic were the same. So then I made my first coconut house.

I had never used the coconut material so I reach out to Paul and started working with him to pick out my colors. For this house I found out the underling stucco did most of the coloring, not the coconut. I have to say this was the most challenging house I had ever made. Getting the right amount of glue in the stucco was a bit difficult, too much and the mixture got gloopy. I tried reducing the glue but next time I am going to add a bit more so the coconut adheres better. Now I am hooked and want to try another coconut house!!

Can you tell us more about the figures show in your pictures.
The look flat. I was wondering what they were.

Hi Steve,
The figures that you are asking about (not that you asked me!) are German lead flats, or zinnfiguren. I believe they date to about the same period as the houses we all love... the 1940's ish, and there are several "sets" that are "Christmas" or winter related. The figures shown here are 30 mm high, and sets can usually be found on E-bay by searching "german lead flats" or "Heinrichsen flats". There is a fabulous 70 piece set on auction right now, as well as a North Pole set featuring Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves and reindeer.

Some of mine are vintage heinrichsen German flats I purchased on eBay and others I brought from Barclay.
