Has anyone published a reference book on putz houses? I've seen lots of books on vintage Christmas ornaments, but nothing on putz houses.

Pete Oehmen (he of the coconut and window mullions fame) is working on an EXTENSIVE and thoroughly photographed/measured/catalogued by category reference book. He has some chapters completed, others in the works. I think that when it is done, it will be the go-to book on the subject.

Do you think Pete would be interested in seeing a picture of a putz village I just purchased at an estate sale, still in the box? The lady passed away at age 92 and her husband was in the military. I got vintage ornaments from all over the world, but the village is the best!

Yes, I set the village up at Christmas, and it was truly amazing. I DARED anyone to touch it, especially the grandchildren. Does anyone have a date for it?

I also have another set that came in the box, and the strangest thing was -- it had paper windows. Paper? Who in the world would use paper? Apparently, Dolly Toy Company. I was scared to death I was going to punch one out. It was truly unbelieveable that all of them were in perfect condition, except one small slit in a door. I thought the lights wouldn't shine well through paper(?) but it was the exact opposite. These houses actually looked the best.

The cutest thing to me were the fences and their little "swing" gates. What a unique touch!

I have a few Dolly houses in my collection and I echo your sentiment about the fragility of the paper windows. I have actually--carefully--with a long tweezer "backed" the inside of the windows with a piece of clear oversized tape--it doesn't have to lay right on the windows from the inside--just enough to protect the paper windows from pokey light bulbs.
