Using Pete's Mullioned Winxows With Coconut
Using Pete's Mullioned Winxows With Coconut
This is a large apartment building in pink & white coconut. As you can see some naughty little child vandalized this pretty well missing few of the paper mullioned windows in there pokeree! Until Pete Oehmen developed coconut this repair would have been virtually impossible. And using one of his mullioned window patterns made it relatively easy. I think the photos make it fairly self explanatory. The large open hole in the back of the building was done by design as the cellophane was put in in large sheets and this NEEDED TO BE DONE AFTER PAINT AND COCONUT WAS APPLIED. So it was necessary to have the building on the base for the painting & coconut. Any questions and I will be glad to answer. The first step is to glue in all the mullioned windows. Second step is to paint them (light pink) and third to sprinkle coconut while the paint is still wet. And lastly to glue in sheets of cellophane. For the glue I used a combination of Aileen's craft glue thinned down with Liquitex's Gloss Medium. It is better than plain water as it has some consistency and aids in the gluing process. I mixed it up in an old sardine tin and painted the glue on with a paint brush on the inside of the building.

And here is the finished product - including the little bulldog that was on one of Janet Watts apartment. Notice that I extended the coconut to the left side of the building which originally was left just pink paint?? What were they thinking?

Great work on an amazing building. Looks like Pete did a great job of matching your pink coconut, too.

The process you used to reproduce the windows is great! Pete's mullions and coconut were obviously helpful. Again, another house restored to it's original beauty.
