two story stone house...

Post by Howard »

good morning...

this type project has been on “my list” for quite a while...but it took two things to make me do it...

first...i was inspired by the irish cottage lynn made a short time ago...here's the link...

http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forum ... ?f=2&t=600

second...a house I saw on a toy train layout...i wrote the maker and asked for several pictures...

my version is similar…just smaller…it’s covered with some of paul’s printed stone graphics…here’s a link…scroll down to “flagstone veneer”…

http://www.bigindoortrains.com/indoor_r ... _stone.htm

i’m using natural color burlap glued down to cardboard for the roofs…it looks similar to “thatch”…

the base, fence and all the details are next…

my very best regards…howard

Lookin' good. What's amazing is that pattern looks better on your houses than the original did on the real building I photographed. :-)

good morning to all...

here is the base and fence under construction...there are 21 different pieces to the fence...

the posts are 1/4" diameter wood candy apple sticks glued into holes drilled into the base...there are small holes drilled in the posts to receive the bamboo skewer rails...all the joints are glued after a dry test fit...the posts tops are 3/4" above the top of the base...

the brown primer has a little white glue mix with it...this paint and glue mixture was lightly sprinkled with craft sand for a little texture...i'll add a third coats of brown when the glue and primer are dry...the final touch to the fence will be some dry brushed shadows and highlights...

my very best regards...howard

i used a "dremel" tool...here's a pix of an older basic model...they come with a selection of cutting, sanding and drilling bits...and tons of other accessories are available...i know that lowe's, home depot and most craft/hobby stores carry the dremel line...they are also available on amazon...

good afternoon to all...

finished the stone house this afternoon...base measures 5 1/2" x 8" x 3/4" thick...overall height including base is 6"...

my wife suggested stepping stones for the walk...i glued a piece of stone printed paper to cereal box cardboard then cut out about 30 stone shapes...it took a while...but i'm pleased with the result...

the sand texture base, burlap roofs, walk, fence and trees are highlighted with mica and glitter applied in selected places...

i used a very fine glass glitter for details on the window sills, shutters and chimney tops...and highlighted the roof snow with snow-tex...

guess what?...as usual...i'm looking for a new project!... :D

my very best regards...howard...

What a great replica, Howard! The printed stone surface is a new and, I think, soon to be popular look. When you are ready for another challenge, look up the Tate House in Georgia. It is covered in various shades of marble and might be good inspiration for another house using printed Surfaces.
