Re: Service Station - October 2024

I think the use of the dinosaur by Sinclair was the most clever bit of marketing.

I think it wasn't until high school biology before I understood the association of dinosaurs and the petroleum industry. When I was a boy, the garage down the road was a Sinclair dealer...always loved seeing the ...

Re: 2026 Project No. 5 — Little Glitter House Version of Vintage House from the Toy Train Museum

That's a terrific take on an unusual little building. Nicely done, Howard. Oozes 1930s style...

I have an upcoming trip to the Toy Train Museum later this month...I'll have to look for their display.

Re: Projects for the railroad

Made a paper version of the Marx T3-21 Army Training Center:

Using Ed Berg's scans as a starting point, I made a fully enclosed version for the tinplate layout. We made the back wall using MS Paint, blacked out the windows and ...

Re: 2026 Project No. 3 — Twin Tower Castle

A terrific result, Howard. Your replication of the stonework is genius. Brings back memories of the German pre- and post-war Elastolin castle sets that turn up occasionally at the toy soldier shows. Thanks for the build record.

Re: Sears houses of 1926

Thanks, Howard...no shortage of houses offered by Sears back in the day. Too bad Sears isn't around anymore.

A friend of mine flipped me this photo of one he found on StreetView:

Made me realize I have the windows balled up on the ...

Re: Sears houses of 1926

I've been working on another Sears house, this the Maplewood , albeit from a bit later, 1932:

Pretty straight-forward, except for that front entryway bit. I made a few minor changes, like dumbing down that chimney, but otherwise ...

Re: 2026 Project No. 1 -- Ye Olde Covered Bridge

A terrific little "model", Howard. We have a number of covered bridges here locally, and yours captures the charm of the real thing perfectly. I'm very interested in your methods for simulating iced over water. Thanks for the pattern and the description of your finishing methods! Brrr...looks chilly ...

Re: Tunnel/Tree-Stand Project

Thanks Howard. I kept some decent notes this time through, tracking a few issues that could stand some more work. However, I’m generally pleased with the outcome. Proved to myself that the notion wasn’t totally crazy.

Feast of the Epiphany is this coming Tuesday, the traditional day around here ...
