Post subject:  Geoff's Red Church Project...

greetings to all...

i'm in the early stages of making my version of the red church that Geoff, a new forum member, shared pictures of...here's a link to his post...scroll down until you find the pictures...

https://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1396&start=10

my version is not an exact copy...i shortened the dimensions front to back by leaving off the back cube part...my church will have two windows on the side vs four...the cone spire may also be taller in proportion the the front tower...the base will be approximately 6" square...overall height, including the 3/4" thick base, will be about 8"...

i hope to post patterns later this week...as soon as i get further along...plus some additional construction pictures...

thanks again, Geoff, for sharing the photos of some of your collection...

my very best regards...

howard...

confession... i'm a "cardboard hoarder"...i "collect" and "recycle" cardboard...some with holes or slits i have to fill in and cover up in order to use...but thanks to patches of torn paper, glue, primer, anti-skid textured paint and craft paint...the flaws will all disappear...

update...10/29...

yes, paul, been looking for a project with "buttresses”...they are made from ultra-thick cardboard...over 1/8" thick...but don't remember where i got it from...

you know, this church would be a great candidate to be covered in the printed "flag stone" graphics you made...here's the link..https://bigindoortrains.com/indoor_resources/brick_n_stone/brick_n_stone.htm...scroll down to flagstone veneer...but if i were going to do that it...i would probably consider enlarging the patterns...

here 's a photo showing a closeup of the cone spire and the interior of the church...

i rolled the spire from a piece of manila folder...(and it only took me three tries  )...to keep the church and tower square, i added a cardboard ceiling to each one...

my very best regards...

howard...

Howard! You rolled your own? Of course I refer to the spire, and I am truly inSPIREd! I can't imagine folder material behaving well enough to do that. I am adventurous when it comes to creating shapes but that is one I would have never considered.

This awesome little church reminds me of a few different red brick country churches I have seen on backroads around Georgia.

Update…10/31...

Been working on the 6” x 6” x ¾” thick base…the posts are 3/8” square x 1” tall cardboard tubes with about ½” square cardboard caps…I plan on using strips of green pot scrubbing pads from the dollar store between them…(was going to use raffia fence…but it looks to casual with the design of the church)…that's the craft store wreath i plan on putting on the front...

Great tip for the hedge material and, as always, a handsome finished product with the church.
