Greetings to all… I have always admired the zinnfiguren flats of the German train “Adler”…and knew one day I wanted to build my own “simplified” version… Here’s a link about the actual train… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adler_(locomotive) You can see the train flats on Antoinette’s Christmas Mantle… http://antoinettestockenberg.com/LargeMantel12_05.htm The first picture below is the image I used to draw patterns for the basic forms…forum member, Lynn, also sent me excellent close up photos of the train flats she has… The next drawings are of the basic form for the locomotive and tender plus the engineer and fireman…a pattern for the open car and the coach car will be posted later… My “simplified” version has turned out to be “less simplified” that I though…there are a lot of tiny cardboard detail parts to figure out, cut to fit and attach to the basic cardboard cutout forms so I won’t be able to provide patterns for them… I’ll be updating this topic as the build continues… My very best regard… Howard…

Lynn wrote: I look at all those tiny pieces you cut with an exacto knife!! Super job!!! Yes, Lynn...lots of little parts...not really as difficult as they may look...just takes time and a sharp blade...but remember...you only see the ones that i cut out correctly...not the ones i had to make over and over to get right... earlier i mentioned a "simplified" version of the train...well, as luck would have it...i found another picture on the internet of a "greatly simplified" vintage flat...wish is had found this one first!...see the image below... howard...

update...11-02-2018... while waiting for the laser cut spoke wheels to arrive, i'm pushing ahead on the two passenger cars...see the pattern for the basic form and a picture of the parts i've made so far...still a "work in progress"...the people will be painted and then glued in place...the black piece with holes and the lighter blue rectangle make up the coach car windows... howard...

update...11-07-2018... still waiting for the wheels to arrive...so time to work on the two bases...there are four parts per base...cardboard base, wood brace (a long fireplace match), cardboard rail and cardboard crossties (two layers of cereal box cardboard laminated together)... i plan to mask off areas of the parts with blue painter's tape so i can paint them more easily, then glue together and finish the painting after assembly... howard...
