Not all of the Papateds collection was complete and though the gambrel roofed pink & lime green lacquie was in good shape the base was missing. Kathi McLaughlin, a helpful collector friend of mine had this and gave me exact dimensions of the base including height of posts and fence. The base on this normally looks dark blue and I may change it later but I thought I saw light blue paint where the shellac was missing on the base of hers. In redoing this I used a can of spray shellac. On the can it says it can be painted over and be re shellacked. The pink house and the lime green roof were not that darkened so may have been wrong on my assumption. If I am not I am not sure I want to wait 80 years for it to darken as shellac often does. Just a note on shellac; as a finish it is important to understand that it never really dries up as a result the impact of dust and other forms of pollution darken the finish as it sinks into and becomes part of the finish. Very often on a piece of furniture you can take pure alcohol and with fine steel wool remove a lot of the darkened finish. Alcohol is the solvent for shellac and can be used to completely strip the furniture. You can then reshellac the item.
