I recently had the opportunity to purchase a group of houses that I call the Hastings Houses after the city in Nebraska where the were uncovered. When I got them from a picker he thought hey were in impeccable condition however EACH AND EVERY ONE HAD BEEN PAINTED WITH OLD FASHIONED HOUSEHOLD ENAMEL PAINT like what was once quite common in hardware stores of yesteryear. It rendered the all coconut buildings into a sort of tough stucco. That they can easily be recovered with new fresh coconut was their only redeeming feature. BLESS Pete and his coconut. He also shared with me his formula for dying it which I needed to complete the yellow barn.
There were 7 houses originally and one was what I call the Hood Scoop house but I already have two. A larger one and one the smaller size like this. This one did have a raffia type fence which I didn't have but decided to sell it anyway. It didn't bring that much so I should have kept it. It is nearly identical to the Fair set building. All of these houses were the smaller size of the Fair set which was also made in two sizes.
The first house I am showing is like the 10th Ave. Angel house of the Fair set EXCEPT this one is smaller AND has a different (though original) color scheme. It took some detective work to tell whether these colors were correct but am reasonably sure that they are fairly close. The second House is what I have been calling the Yellow Barn house. Besides the color it's main difference is the raffia type fence from the fair standard. The Third house in this set is the first one I restored which is a lime green and orange house with orange fence and blue base and turned out nicely - BUT I do not have and don't remember a house EXACTLY like this and certainly not in association with the Fair Set but here it is. One of the things that tells us these were always together is the import stamp on the bottom is a three line mark arranged thusly;

The balance of the houses in this "Hastings Set" are all different from the Fair Set. I have a church which I haven't taken a photo of since I just finished it yesterday but will post it when I do as it is different from the Fair Set church.
Continuing then this Red & Purple house with Blue balcony and different blue base is similar to the Rainbow house in the Fair set but has a dog house and balcony the other doesn't have and though similar is quite different.
The next house is what I call the White Castle house as characterized by a sort of castellated boarder around the top of the central tower. And lastly the set as grouped together. Will eventually add the Church when I get a photo of it posted here.
