Two new houses

Post by Lucy »

I am getting some houses ready for a sale later in the year. They aren't completely for Halloween so that is why I am posting them in the general forum. The larger white house is an abandoned Italianate house modeled after a real house in Pennsylvania. It was actually easier than I thought it would be to put together. The smaller house is called the Sea-worn Beach House. For both of them I cut holes in corrugated cardboard for the base so tea lights could be added easily. Both of them light up brightly.

I generally write about the house I make on my blog if you want to read a little more about them - https://withglueandglitter.blogspot.com ... house.html and https://withglueandglitter.blogspot.com ... -2017.html

Great houses!!! They are so cool, they feel like they could fit right in a Tim Burton movie or something. Waiting for Beetlejuice to pop out, or Jack Skellington to walk by ....especially on the second one!! :) You get so much neat detail, love the wood door on the first house, and the red chimney is the perfect accent on your second. Is the door on the first one made out of cardboard?

Brian,
Thank you. Both doors are cardboard. On the Italianate house I just cut out a door using one of Pete's dies and then punched out 3 slots for the window. On the beach house, the door is made from strips of cardboard antiqued with brown paint glued on a black cardstock with some added strips of black cardstock. I cut that one using Pete's die as well. I forgot to add a chimney to the beach house, I will do that.

I decided to add some more pictures. I put some foil tape inside before I glued the pieces together so that light would be reflected better. When I made the base I cut out areas for LED tea lights to fit in so it is easy to light the houses. The beach house probably lights up too well. I may have to paint a little black paint inside to tone it down some. Thank you for your kind comments.

Hi Lucy...

These are great houses.. somewhere between Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock. I'd think twice before knocking on the door
for Trick Or Treat! Nice work: lots of atmosphere.

Lucy...

Just have to ask..."Does Norman live in the Italianate house?"...(Alfred would know for sure)...

I especially like the crooked siding...(not to mention the other detailing)...i know it might be easier to add siding before cutting the openings...but it looks more deserted and in need of repairs if the siding is not straight and perfect...so...don't change your method!...

my very best regards...
