Greetings to all…

This project was actually started before last Christmas…but I wasn’t able to finish it in time...

I made a corrugated cardboard “lid” that fits over the top of our buffet and added pieces of recycled white foam packing material to create tiers…

It’s covered with that very inexpensive snow base material…(if I had to do it over again I would definitely opt for white felt)…a piece of wood trim along the edge of the lid finishes it off…Aleene’s craft glue holds everything together…

Wires to power my vintage Lionel streetlamps are fed thru the foam and hidden by the snow base material…go here for more about the lamps…

https://bigindoortrains.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=147&p=592&hilit=lionel+street+lamps#p592

The background scene is one I’ve had for quite a few years…it was salvaged from a craft store or Wal-Mart…

About illuminating each house?…still working on the best way…that will probably be a ready in 2018...

I’ll post pictures of the village display later in the season…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!…

Howard…

As always, a masterful piece of work! Oh Howard, I am so electronically challenged, changing lightbulbs is my outer limit of a skillset. I shall live vicariously through your display and have to settle for battery powered tea lights for my small layout. Also, having a curious, playful cat adds to the limitations of a display. ;) Mine consists of two shelves, high up in our bookcases. I sneak in a few houses among the holiday items elsewhere, but I've got to be cagey!

I look forward to seeing photos of everyone's layouts this season. We're heading into prime Glitter House time!

This display shelf is nice Howard. So much easier to set up than my conglomeration of different sized boxes on a piece of plywood. Your lights set up nicely on there too. Looking forward to seeing the Christmas display later.

Howard,
Are those the lights that you restored? This is going to be an incredible set-up. I love the tiered mounds of "snow".

Go here to see the finished project...https://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1415

note...i took the winter scene background down...wasn't happy with the way it looked with all the houses and supporting items in place...i'm still "experimenting" with a power source for the street lamps...hope to have that finalized next week...

my very best regards...

Howard...

got the power connected...and it works...but still looking at an option...i'll post a pix of the final power supply later...

Lucy...yes...those are the six lamps i restored...the one in the center on the bottom tier is an old tinplate toy train streetlamp...i didn't have to do anything to it...
