I’m building another candy box house with Santa. I have basic measurements (height and width) and some pictures from an Ebay offering. The first picture is from Ebay and then my progress so far on the house and Santa. Latest update on the candy box house and Santa: 6 coats of acrylic paint and gluing the house together. The yellow acrylic paint came out way too shiny for me so I added an off white matte chalk paint to the final coats and i like it better. Santa has his armature attached. Lynn, I put up several pics and my steps for making the Santa in the ‘putz house figures’ forum. Hi Laurie, your house is coming out great, nice job painting the bricks. Thanks for all the info and pictures of your Santa. It reminds me a bit of the needle felting. |

The candy box house is finished. Matching the santa to the house was problematic, and even with bending back his legs, he overwhelms the house. It looks like the original santa has the size face i used, but I think I’ll make another one and use the smaller face to replace this big guy. Laurie... I think the Santa is fine the size you made him...he has that vintage look...that's what's important... Your painting of the individual bricks is first class...look "printed" to me...just like the original... Is then slender tree just a standard bottle brush one or did you trim it to make is look that way?... The textured finish on the base and roof looks so original, too!...great photography on the black background... Howard... |

Thanks for the kind comments. Howard, the tree is a section of green knobby pipe cleaner with brushed on white paint. The ebay seller stated the house had a very sparkly mica finish and i debated mica but in the end decided #80 diamond dust would look the best. By the way do you, or anyone else, know if there is a printable sheet of red brick like you see on early printies and candy boxes? And, since i got a iight box my photographs have turned out much better. |
