Art Deco City Hall

Hello everyone; I haven't posted lately as I have said in the past the exacto knife and I are not friends.
I have been wanting to do an art deco piece for some time when I saw a paper model of a haunted insane asylum at this site: http://www.haunteddimensions.raykeim.com/index321.html
This is a great site with lots of inspiriation.

The back story I made up for this putz was that it was built in the 1930's as a WPA project. It took me about three months to complete.

OUTSTANDING WORK!...I'd say it's your best ever!...creative use of those warm white LED lights, too!...this piece is really crammed with texture, surface interest and detail...the pix with the old car is my favorite...did you buy or make the city hall sign?...

You have created a beautiful structure that could be many different institutions. By simply changing the sign, it could become a hotel, apartments, hospital, church, theatre, auditorium, department store... the possibilities are endless. Just be sure to use that perfectly matched font on all different signs. A few fancy toy limousines of the 1930s arriving at the door would be perfect.

A little about the details on the model...

The snow is Aleenes Glitter Snow available on Amazon. There is Aleene's Glitter Snow and Aleene's True Snow. The glitter snow is cheaper but the glitter hardly shows at all.

The CITY HALL sign was made with a free art deco font I downloaded and inkjet printing film or transparancy film. I printed out different sizes on paper until I found the one I liked best and then printed it on the film and cut it out and installed it.

The little trees on either side of the entry are made from chenille stalks and the planters are toothpaste caps. The covers on the side lights are made from plastic soda straws.

I used matchsticks for the window sills as well as using them inside around the window frames so when I installed the windows they were set back some giving more depth to the facade.

The lighting is just a battery powered string of tiny LEDs.

Really this is is a masterpiece. I love all the details. DCrowe cracks me up every time because he notices the vehicles, but the little car in the front is also a great addition to your Art Deco City Hall.

Lucy, I have been collecting toy cars for at least 45 years and have a couple of thousand of them. Actually toy cars brought my attention to other miniatures and ultimately to putz houses. The houses were originally just display accessories for the cars.

And I must also recognize a dear family friend, Gladys, who always displayed a few putz houses each Christmas. I was just a kid so I can't recall specifics. Unfortunately I think I did the obligatory kid thing and poked a finger through at least one window.
