I don't know if this is an accurate way to put it but there are many made in Japan putz houses (cardboard houses) that have no hole for a light but were instead musical; most had a music box mechanism that played Silent Night, followed by Jingle Bells in my experience. Here are some of my "cardboard" musical putzes

Pretty cool. Do they use the tine music box machines?

Yes, they wind-up. The Santa one is from the late 60's; the Church one is from the early 60's supposedly.

good afternoon...

here's a pix of a "garage sale" find from a few years back...although not cardboard, but plastic, it seem to fit in with the general category of "musical putzes"...the only marking i can find says "hong kong"...i'm not sure of the year of manufacture...naturally, it plays "silent night"...we usually display it with a collection of angels on a shelf over a dimestore manger scene that is from the 50's...

my very best regards...

howard

A garage sale find! I need to get down your way to some garage sales. I have seen two versions of this. One was made in Japan very early 60's--the other, very similar to this only with a minister playing not an angel, was made in Hong Kong late 70's. Both played Silent Night as well.

I am really excited to see the one with the choir boys. I have a little collection of choir boys; especially the ones that look like altar boys.
