Putz Photo

Post by paulrace »

Found recently, Christmas RR photo that could almost be pre-war, except for the Plasticville structures on the table behind the kids. Uploaded to test the upload feature. To attach photos, use the browse button underneath the "Upload Attachment" bar underneath your message.

I mislaid a few of these until just now - having to continually switch computers because the forced operationg system upgrades keep making the "kernel" too big to run on computers that worked fine previously. Fortunately, I'm getting better about keeping archives. Just not at remembering where I kept them.

Photo says Feb, 1971, which was probably the development date. So, Christmas, 1970, but those little houses are probably much older, though they're likely post-war.

Date unknown. This one is obviously on a finished porch, which solves the space issue, I suppose.

Age unknown, still. Could be 1940s, but hard to tell with the poor detail. That's a real fir tree, something you don't see as often in the 1940s, but nothing else would put post-war.

This is the only ad I have ever seen that features a putz in it.

Great catch, Maria. Looks like a church and at least two houses with relatively complex shapes. I tried smoothing the hash marks out to see if I could get the picture any more clear, but it's not much more informative, as you'll see.

Some folks got together for a mini putz convention--including putz artisan Karl Fey--we call it is PUTZFEST 2011. If you want to see the photos and there's some really outstanding older pieces here:

Here's some links to amazing photos sent to me by a putzing friend. This is Cora Baitler's Christmas putz 1950's. Isn't this incredible?
