Post subject:  Migration Update

I've been trying for months off and on to migrate this forum to a more reliable server, hopefully fixing all the broken parts at the same time. I've spent money, too, on top of what I spend just to keep things online. Don't ask how much. I'm not asking for money, just explaining that I've been trying to get things working again.

I've spent the last two days on the phone with my suppliers trying to work out the bugs, and it looks like I'm starting all over again today.

Not complaining, but just thanking you for your patience.

I maintain several discussion forums, and they're all experiencing similar issues, but this is the one people depend on, so it gets priority.

More later -

Spent several more hours today trying to get things going on the new server. Apparently nobody at GoDaddy wants to support software they supply any more. I'm using PHPBB software for the discussion forums, and the last time the software had a major update, there wasn't a real migration path to the update.

Theoretically, I should be able to just copy the database to the new server, install the new PHPBB software and go from there. But nothing actually works quite like it should.

And the help desk people aren't about fixing the issues as much as they are demanding to know why I think I need to keep the site going anyway. . . .

So, trying again to get things moved over. Stay tuned . . . .
