Hello Putz House friends,

Sorry I haven't used this wonderful site before. Things have been crazy down here in the Putzn' Pete's Putz House Hospital this Holiday Season. As you know by now I have produced the Mullion windows used to repair your old Putz Houses. I sell a set for $8.00 (see the above photos) that includes the red cellophane. I always send out a few extra as well as color samples. Mailing is 60ยข. My purpose is not to get rich but to pay myself back the initial purchase of the expensive dies.

I will have in my hands very soon all of the doors and windows that Papa Ted used to sell on his masterful Putz House site. I will work up a price for these items as soon as I receive them.

I believe that most people on this site know what COCONUT is? After years of experimentation I have rediscovered the Japanese art of making COCONUT. I have perfected the original colors and can custom color my COCONUT to your desired color. I sell this COCONUT (2 ounces per order) for $8.00 for standard colors and $11.00 for custom colors. 2 ounces is enough coconut to cover a good sized putz house and it's base.

I am also the author of the Christmas Putz Houses Collector's Guide. As a collector I kept buying the same houses over and over because I couldn't remember which houses that I already owned. Because I own a printing business I was able to start cataloging my collection. I figured after I cataloged all 500 Putz Houses that exists my project and collection would be finished! My collection alone is over 3000 strong and my catalog/collector's guide has no end in sight. So as for now I sell the Collector's Guide as Chapters. I'll publish more on this later.

The main hobby of my life is being a miniaturist. So it would be natural that I would take up repairing and building Putz Houses. With a love for Science and the Arts I love the challenge to recreate what the Japanese Artisan left us. I hope to be sharing many of my finds, discoveries, tips and photos. Speaking of Photos I can't figure out how to post one on this piece????

Thanks, Pete

I am relieved to know we will be able to get windows again! I was going crazy trying to figure out what I could do to fill the void and now, thanks to you, I won't have to. I love restoring putz houses and collecting them. I also sell them in my year round Christmas Booth so that they will continue to be loved and appreciated. Let me know how I can order windows!

Pete, to post photos, make certain they're 800pixels wide or less and follow the instructions here:

Glad to see you online again! :-)

Pete,

I understand that the window punchouts you make replicate the same windows that Ted did, but your note at the start of this thread makes it sound like you have acquired a stock of Ted's unsold cellophane windows (or maybe the printed ones). Or have you found someone to silkscreen mylar with the appropriate ink? Sorry, I'm easily confused, but when you say "I will have in my hands very soon all of the doors and windows that Papa Ted used to sell on his masterful Putz House site" it sounds like you will be selling "new old stock," as we call it in other collector markets. If you have acquired such an inventory, that's great. If what you're saying is that your product now replicates every door and window that Ted use to sell, that's great, too. I would just like clarification.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

I use to print off the all the paper doors and windows that Papa Ted sold on his site a few years prior to his illness. I digitally recreated them for him and printed them off and sent them his way. So I have all the files for every door and window on my computer. He also sent me all the original camera ready art that he used to have the cello windows printed, as I also own a screen printing business. But I never need to print any, it sounded as if Ted had more than enough windows printed to last a lifetime the first go around, but he often ran out of the paper stock. I'd be happy to make the files available. It took me along time to recreate, but if it helps ya'll out let me know.
Thanks
-Brian

Heres a pic of the stuff I use to send to Ted. After I recreated them I had them all printed off at Staples on their laser printers. I never charged Ted anything for this stuff cause I was happy to help and loved the service he provided all of us! He would take the time to hand cut all the sheets apart and send folks what they needed.

Thanks for chiming in. It's nice to know who did the digital art for the printed doors and windows.

It's also nice to know that the resources Ted worked on so long are in the hands of someone who understands what we do (and not -as I had feared - in the file cabinet of a "speedy print" somewhere that would throw them out in a year or two).

Before I heard from you, I had been thinking about making my own digital recreations of the paper doors and windows to offer as a free digital download. (In fact I've already started, but have not gotten very far.)

I held off when Ted was alive, of course. Yes, it was his only source of "income" from the site. But when I tried to help him make money off the site in other, more predictable ways, I relized that the real reason he sold his doors and windows was that he liked hearing from people with similar interests, and who was I to take that away from him?

Anyway, thanks again for signing up, it's good to know who was the graphic artist behind it all.

Paul

Thanks Paul, i've been meaning to sign up, but have been busy, I have a 3yr old. ;) I loved talking with Ted. We had a lot in common as we are/were both musicians as well. Also Ted like to hand write letters, all of which i still have, and I thought that was unique in the internet age. A photo of my Dad from when he was a boy in a Hopalong Cassidy outfit standing by a putz in the 50's is on Ted's site in the letters section, and that was how I first got in touch with Ted. I started to repair some houses I had and Ted was out of stuff so I recreated it for him. I didn't do the original art, but all the new stuff from about 2008 on. I cleaned up all the lines, vectorized them and made them look closer to the originals. Then Ted sent me his art for the cello windows incase he needed more.
I think thats cool you want offer a free download of the paper stuff, I send you an email about the files I created.
Thanks for hosting the forums!! Love them! I'll try to chime in more!

Not only do I love what Pete and Brian (and everyone else) are doing to continue Papa Ted's contributions to our craft, but I love the goodhearted spirit that moves you. What a great group of people!
