I am a small-time collector of cardboard houses and am thrilled that there is another website devoted to them. I am sending you a link to Flickr photos of my collection. The photos are not as good as I would like and am planning on retaking them in the future. My collection is nothing like some of the other fabulous collections of other collectors, but I love the ones I have. Enjoy.

I liked your photos, some great pieces, and as Howard said, a nice collection. Here's a question, who made the two-story house? It's very nice.

That's one of my favorite houses too. Who's the maker?

Sorry to be so slow in my response. I haven't learned the ropes of the forum yet. I'm not sure how I receive notices of replies to my posts. I'm sure this old mind will figure the forum out soon!

This little two-story house was made by a senior citizen many years back. I bought it at a senior citizen's craft fair. There are two more made by the same gentleman in my collection. One is a gristmill and the other is a general store. I thought he did a great job and was very clever in his use of materials.

I have another one -- a red two-story house with "smoke" coming out of the chimney that was made for me by a 90+ year-old gentleman who was a train enthusiast and made them for his train display. He saw my collection and wanted to make one for my collection.

As for my modest collection. My collection is modest in that I have none of the more desirable styles of houses, as I would love to have. I do cherish every one of them, even the ones that are all but falling apart. I have thought about restoring them -- and probably will do that to couple of them in the future -- but that doesn't necessarily place them further down on my list of houses I love. I don't have the nerve yet to begin restoration. I need to study the procedures further and understand what supplies to use before I begin.

Thanks for filling us in about that house. It's a great story, as are the other tales of how these things got into your collection. As far as restoration is concerned, if you decide to try one, Tom Hull wrote most of the best articles about restoration. We have links to those articles on this page:

Have a great holiday season,

A couple of weeks ago, Howard send me a link to some great photos from "down under" - a lady who has done a very nice job with some of Howard's patterns:
