Forgot to post side by side with original. I put a new tree and a fence post on the back left side of the original. Page 1 has finished house all by itself.

Thank you so much Tom and Maria!! Maria, I saw your blog post this morning and it's very cool!  Here is a pic of the other side that I didn't originally photo. It differs from my original a bit. My original only has 3 of the longer windows. They are all towards the top of the house one on top, and two just below. I pattern this side of my new one off Antoinette's too, which also looks closer to the movie house.

Wonderful job, Brian! Your reproduction has the same great look of the original that I have, which is just vibrant with color and thick with coconut. Well done! Identifying that house from the movie "10th Avenue Angel" was truly a fun quest. First I had to hunt down a VHS of the movie, then get my husband to capture the image of the house, which appears only ever so briefly in it. And after that, it was just a question of watch and wait. When I saw the house show up at last on eBay and won it, I was beside myself with joy; I could hardly wait to take lots of photos and present them to our mentor, Papa Ted. (See Ted's "Books and Movies" section, http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/putz3.html ) And when I created the church and memorial scene for Ted on last year's mantel, I made sure that the 10th Avenue house was included. ( http://antoinettestockenberg.com/Putz2012.htm ) It had real meaning for Ted, and so for us all, and now I've learned that it does for you as well. A charming, wonderful house just packed with emotional resonance -- exactly why we love these cardboard creations so much. |

Thank you so much, Antoinette!! That is so great to hear! I'm so greatful for your photos and the effort you and your husband put forth in finding the movie. I don't know if I would have known about the house if you hadn't sent Ted pics. Your houses, mantels, and stories are true inspirations!!! Howard had made a comment about doing all the HOM on Ted's site, dont know if I'm that ambitious.. But now that this house is complete I have decided to do the rest of the "Fair Set" I noticed you have quite a few of them! So I will be studying all of your pics for sure! The next one I'm going to try is the Jan 2002 house from the set that looks like a bit like a barn, it's one I don't have. I only have one other from the set in my collection, but have two variations of the same house, so I'm excited to get started! |

I think that reproducing The Fair set is a great idea. That group of houses was by far the best of the known boxed sets. There were bigger, more elaborate houses, but we can only speculate which ones may have come boxed together, if at all. So you have a noble goal, and the will, skill -- and apparently time -- to pursue it. Have fun! |

I'm having fun! I mainly do my building after 9pm til about midnight lately, it's a perfect activity to do when my daughter goes to bed and I can't make noise. I began my second house from the "Fair Set" I'm calling it the "barn" house. It was also the HOM on Papa Ted's site in January 2002. http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/Hom2002.html I just finished getting it all ready for primer.

Thanks Howard! I would be happy to share my patterns! I need to organize them and convert them from my art program so everybody can open them...I'll probably make them .pdf files. I have patterns from the blue house and bead house that I did too that I've been meaning to convert. I'll try to get to them soon. I would love to do a house a week, I got a few big shirt orders coming up, so I'll probably be working late the next few weeks, but I'm having a great time working on them so hopefully I can keep my momentum going. I have a feeling when it comes time to make the raffia style fence it will slow me up, haven't used a sewing machine in over 20yrs??? and then it was very briefly in a home ec class. So I may try to out source that to a friend. I do have a sewing machine though...so I may take a crack at it first. Yep, at night is pretty much the only quite time we get! That and the 3 hours of preschool in the morning. I sprayed the house with primer before I went to bed last night, here is a pic of all the pieces.
