I've made Candy Corn houses before, but I keep trying to perfect the pattern because I think it has such potential for being a really cute house for a child.
Anyway, here is my dilemma. I am having trouble deciding whether to glitter the house or not. I haven't finished painting the roof as I just glued it and the chimney on so the bottom half of the roof will be orange. My photo shows the house with a previous Candy Corn house that I did glitter. You can see that the glitter subdues the color some which is ok, but the base for the new house is very bright and colorful and I wonder if it just won't match.
Is there a way to put on a very light coat for glitter?
The previous Candy Corn house is a prototype that I messed up on - wrong colors. Halloween Candy Corn is yellow/orange/white. And the glue was too thick around the windows and there's a gap where the chimney is glued on, etc, etc.
Just wanted some expert opinions.

Re: Candy Corn Halloween House
Seems like I've seen glass glitter that comes in a bit bigger size like little squares that really lets color show through, and since its bigger you might not need as much. I've never bought any though...but it might be something to look for?
Re: Candy Corn Halloween House
How about the fine color glitter? You could keep the bright colors and add some sparkle. White is tough, seems to have tint of colors. If you would like some pictures of what I have let me know.
Re: Candy Corn Halloween House
I was anxious to finish the house and I just didn't like the yellow and orange glitter that I have on hand. It's got that iridescent green tinge to it. I remembered that I had some fine (as in finely ground) German Glass glitter so that's what I used. I think it looks pretty good. I don't use glitter very often so I'm not great at it. There are a few areas where the glitter is too thick and some skipped areas, but overall it's ok.
The base is made with a painted finial on a cardboard circle with a rosette. The top of the base is a cardboard circle stenciled with a harlequin stencil. The base is very sturdy and stable.

I think it looks great and I like the green in the base.

I do love this house. The base is quite intricate and so much fun. It's also fun to see you use glitter!
