Greetings to all...

Lynn and I have been exchanging emails about making and assembling bases...specifically some way that will ensure bases are square and not twisted...plus a way to glue all edges of the sides together at the same time when the top is put over the bottom...

Here's the solution I came up...it's easy to put together from readily available material...the pictures tell the story about how it's built and how it works...but here are a few details...

8" x 10" laminated cardboard base at least 5 or 6 layers thick...

3/4" square pieces of wood glued to the base at 90-degrees...

cleats made from corner molding...you'll have to make various lengths based on the dimensions of base sides being glued...that's a 3" x 5" base in the photos...

Line the edges with cushioning...i used foam core...but may replace it with craft foam...

Drill small holes about 1/2" apart in the cleats...

Several long point office pushpins hold the cleats in position...

Hope the all makes sense...

My very best regards...

Howard...

Oh I don't know if "genius" is too strong a word. You do come up with a lot of ingenious ideas for house building.
Thanks for sharing your latest invention.

I, too, am impressed with the jig for making bases. I've never made a base like this before, but I am going to now. It seems to me you could use it for squaring up houses as well.

My brother who builds cabinets has a similar set up for making face frames for his cabinets.

As always, thank you for sharing these details.
