I just bought three distinct Papier-mâché houses from WalMart at $4.98 each. Looks like they are intended for Halloween use so they didn't have many. I will post pics later. But they are quite complex shapes which lend themselves well to decorating for different occasions. Base sizes are about 8 inches wide and 5 inches deep, so a little larger than the usual Japanese vintage ones. But for the price, they are a steal. In the same end cap of the craft section they were offering acrylic paints for $0.50 per bottle to decorate these. Grab a cheap bag of assorted brushes, a few paints, and a house or two and have fun with the kids. How else are they going to learn about putzing? And pick up a few more to decorate for Christmas.

This is not a paid commercial advertisement. If it had been an actual paid commercial advertisement, you would have been instructed where to tune to for news and official information. This is only a post. You may now return to your normally scheduled browsing.

I just saw some last week. I need to buy a few for my 8 yr. old boy. He would love this activity! Thanks for sharing...

Cheers,

I like the one on the right in the last photo...it looks so much like a litho tin train station by the German maker Bing...

here's the way it might look with a little cardboard surgery...

Howard...

Those are cool, I wonder if any of the pre printed windows and doors would fit in the openings...would be a cool way to give them the classic touch!

Today, November 1, these are on sale for 50% off! I bought all my WalMart had left. You should have seen the looks on people's faces when I pushed my cart of 26 houses out.

Good luck if you go to find them at your local WM.

I bought several last year, on close out also and they were only $1.99. I decorated one for Halloween for my daughter (who's an adult) and gave her a couple more to decorate on her own. I'll see if I can find some of the pics. They're fun to do.

Here is a pic of two of these houses that my daughter had out for Halloween. She finished one and I did the other. It's fascinating to me to see how differently we approached our finishes. Now, to figure out what to do with the other houses I bought.
