The text below the title is from a 'mystery' item post I recently made to "Collectors' Weekly". Six days and no ID. A kind Cardboard Christmas member directed me to post my item directly to this thread, so I am. Many thanks to all for the kind assistance! -- miKKoChristmas77

UNIDENTIFIED RARE PUTZ HOUSE LIGHT - INTEGRATED UNIT, POSSIBLY MADE WITH SLAVE LABOR

We can’t identify this old, curious little Christmas Putz House that is an integrated Christmas tree light and putz. This is not an old Christmas light with a removable putz cover; this is a factory made one-piece unit. In the opinion of Paul Race of “Cardboard Christmas”, this item is “definitely unusual”, and it “[L]ooks like it was meant to be a Christmas tree decoration and NOT to sit on a surface.” Mr. Race explained that none of the Japanese companies that made these putz houses kept the usual records that companies keep, and that the ‘descendant’ companies currently in operation will not acknowledge these products because they were very often made with slave labor. This revelation stunned me.

There is a Nippon Registration Number on the base bottom, but as yet the knowledgeable collectors at “Cardboard Christmas” have not identified it. It had been hoped that the American company importing the house, or the year, might be identified. Mr. Race posted this unusual variation to the “Cardboard Christmas ™ Forum” website and noted therein these distinguishing characteristics:
• “The ‘base’ is nominal”
• “The lamp is fastened to the top”
• “And there are factory-punched ventilation slots in the back”

The fellow from whom I acquired this curiosity years back was a rather languid creature, but when he described this treasure to me, he was markedly excited and indulged in sudden, jerky, expansive gestures. Clearly, he loved this, and he told me that it was very rare. He reported that the lamp still lights up, and that you can see the glow through the house’s extant cellophane window. Since then, it has spent most of its days resting in a box filled with peanuts. I have no means to light it. I have displayed it on the mantle at Christmas, but it was lonely there, too, for it has no like neighbors. It is growing restive in the cupboard. We would like to know more about it. Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks!...Merry Christmas! (Many thanks to Mr. Race for his most gracious assistance!)

Hooray! Two advances in the search:

1.) An ebayer has written that he has several of these, and though he has provided no further details as of yet, they might be forthcoming.

2.) At Merry The's Christmas Collection I saw several of this kind of putz-light-tree-ornament. None exactly like this, but very close. She doesn't have an exact ID, but this is a great advance.

Many thanks to all!

Same ebayer reported that he/she doesn't know anything about these houses except that they were made in Japan.
