New to the group

If you would like to let the rest of us know a bit about you, especially if you have any special skills or knowledge that the rest of the group might be able to draw on, that would be good. Also, if you have a blog or other web resource that's related to what we do here. . .

New to the group

Post by maxikyd »

Hi, my name is maxi, and I live in Montana. I have an old village that I'm currently repairing/restoring. From what I gather, it's a Dolly Toy Company "printie" set, and I started my repair journey by finding information online to better salvage what pieces are left. I have a Silhouette Cameo, and am slowly learning how to transfer pictures into usable cutter files: just designed a replacement fence, and am going to be cutting it soon. I'm a longtime modeler in plastic, especially G, HO, and Z scale buildings and people. I received a 3d printer for Christmas and am endeavoring to learn how to use it. I plan to post some of my repairs, as soon as the glitter/mica and fake snow stuff arrive to finish the repairs. Thanks for letting me join, and I hope to contribute on a regular basis.

Warm welcome to a new tech savvy member! I look forward to seeing the things you create. I'm still stuck in finding odd and fun shaped containers and repurposing them to become little structures. I'm great at finding, but the resulting structures are a bit delayed.

Maxi...

Good morning and welcome...

Since you’ve already found the forum, you probably already know we’re a friendly group, always willing to help and unselfishly share our knowledge and resources...

Although I’m not into computer aided cutting or 3-d printing, I know there are members who are...so you’re in good company...

Hello! I'm completely new (like days new) to the forum as well as the whole Putz world. My husband and I have had his grandfather's set of cardboard houses in the attic (gasp!) for the 35 years of our marriage. Just about every year I pass over bringing the box down to decorate with because they need some TLC.

Last year I decided I would put it in my "she-cave" on a shelf to be top of mind to figure out how to restore the little guys. Fast forward to Sunday before Thanksgiving, our 3 day road trip from Pa to Denver and I decided to do some research - viola! I know only what I've read here and random things elsewhere, completely intrigued by the resources, the large community and how these houses are really a whole world unto themselves! My regret is that while I had the insurmountable task to cleaning out my mother's house this year, the Christmas boxes were just beyond my realm of energy and time and we made the conscious decision to not pull them down and go through them even though my brother and I knew what was there - including a set of the little cardboard houses that I used to LOVE to put under our tree and create a whole storyline in my imagination...but I will let that guilt go because it was only one tiny matter in the upheaval that was my year.

So, here are the guys I'll be working on. They aren't in too bad a shape considering everything. I also had an idea of making my own houses at some point to represent the homes I have lived in and as gifts for family of their homes. Big plans and hopes. But in a new season of life now, I hope to enjoy this new hobby.

My husband and I live in Scranton area, Pennsylvania. We are empty nesters, hubby newly retired, and fur-parents to two Maine Coon kittens not quite a year old. I am am pivoting my 30 year professional photography career to blend with Christian life coaching and speaking. I also am the lead tenor drummer of the Greater Scranton Black Diamonds Pipe Band, love to do standup comedy, dabble with scrapbooking, photo restoration, and stamp collecting sort of and LOVE to connect with new people. I'm thrilled to be here and if you read down THIS far - I can't wait to meet you! lol

Cheryl…

Let me add my note of welcome to the forum…and also say it’s so nice to see a pristine set of houses in what’s looks like the original box…and in the hands of someone who appreciates the set…
