Post subject:  Antique German Christmas Erzgebirge Mountainside Village?

Greetings,

I am new to the forum, so please guide me if I have posted this in the wrong place!

The attached village scene (double-tier mountainside) stood under my grandfather's Christmas tree when I was a child and, surely, when my mother was a child. It used to be complete and I loved it, but my younger cousins must have really played hard with it when I went to college! As a young woman, I had hoped to restore it, but I can tell now that it is beyond repair. But I would like to know more about its origins and whether it would be possible to find another to replace it. I have looked for years and have only seen one in a New Market, MD, antique shop, at a time when I could not afford the $300 being asked. Where do you suggest that I should look for information on this type of early German house scene? I could find nothing similar on Papa Ted's site.

Thank very much and happy 2013!

Vanda

Vanda,

Welcome aboard. Thanks for posting the photos, I'm sorry the village was so vandalized. :-(

Now that we've seen it, I know a couple folks who will be keeping an eye out for similar pieces for you.

Have a great 2013!

Paul

Great looking. I've never seen anything like it. Appreciate the opportunity to see it.
