I have been able to acquire a few of Papa Ted's collection of houses. I have always liked this building (maybe a police station in sunny southern cal?) and it has elements of a southwestern influence in it's design. It is an instance where some of the former design glory had been captured in this late house likely in the early 1950's.
Much prep work was necessary before the fun part of painting and putting on coconut could begin. Starting with repairing the base. All of the side pieces of the base were there and they glued back nicely but had to put on a bottom. I did NOT put white paper on it as there seemed to me to be no point in doing that. Sometimes I think the restoration should show. The corner of the roof was fixed and a few other minor detail. Then I used the cornstarch method of cleaning but it still need some paint touch up. For the flat part of the base I repainted it a combination of antique white and white and then sprinkled on some fine German glass glitter as that was the original finish. The side walls were the same way and the cleaning did NOT remove the foxing that had occurred on this one so matching paint was necessary. Also the G Glass glitter was used over the salmon colored paint.
White paint overcasting on the base replicating the original treatment was used as well as glass glitter too. This is easy to do but requires some finesse. Finally the roof was painted and JUST A SCOOCH of aged white coconut was used.
To fit the new windows it was necessary to remove the flat roof BUT necessary to paint the salmon colored areas before installing the Papa Ted windows that were designed to fit in these late buildings.
Note also the arch wall which has a heavier stucco was left alone. I don't know whether the spots on it were original or acquired but I sort of like the textural interest and left it alone On the bottom which is just cardboard not white paper I have documented the repair and that it was Papa Ted using his cartouche.
The last photo is the before photo taken from the auction page. tkh

GREAT job of matching that peach(?) paint. Other repairs look fine, too. Pete's windows, I assume. . . .

:-)

Well actually these I got from Kathi who helped Ted with the windows. It is the ORIGINAL type for this building but I never had a use for it even though I bought some from Ted some time ago. However you are right as Pete is handling Ted's windows I just didn't happen to get them from him. TKH
