Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, but have visited Papa Ted's place online over the years and done some collecting now and then with regard to these wonderful old cardboard houses.
Oddly enough, it started when I wanted to find some tiny glitter houses that were like what my grandparents had on their aluminum Christmas tree back in the 60's. I found them, but I also found the larger "under the tree" or train/putz houses at the same time. I was captivated!
I think my kids thought I was nuts...but I found Papa Ted's Place and realized I was not the only one who in love with these little houses.
So for awhile I collected some, sold a few, and bought a few more. I remember the ebay auction for the Flat Iron building that went for a record price. I actually bid on that and could only sit back in awe after a moment when I saw the bidding escalate. I don't remember what my high bid was but it was no where near what it eventually went for.
Anyway, it has been a few years, and I took a break from collecting. It was only recently, where I have taken an interest once again. I hadn't realized that Papa Ted had passed on until I saw the auctions for some of his houses go up this past fall. I managed to win a few. I also was lucky enough to have won a portion of the High School putz. It is minus the two top sections, mid section and steeple with clock face.
I will try to include the picture here. I hope to have my son in law help with restoring it and I have corresponded with Pete for parts and tips on restoring. I have never attempted a restoration on of the houses I have, other than the cornstarch cleaning on a few.
More later and hope the picture comes up ok.
Cindy
