Post subject:  My recent putz house acquisition...
Good weekend all! I recently acquired this cute coconut 2 story house and I call it a "foil top" :P .. I am going to restore it here soon and will need to replace the foil. Any suggestions where I might be able to purchase a similar product? I have seen this design all decked out with just the coconut on the roof, but as all of you are, I too am a purist when it comes to a restoration project. Of course, you can see that the door & bottom windows are not the originals and will be replaced accordingly. I will add back some new coconut texture to it as well. It's going to be a fun project! Any suggestions from you folks would be much appreciated.

I think some ppl on the forum have used smoothed out foil from candy wrappers.

Looks like Easter candy colors.

Hi Will, I remember someone mentioning using florist foil and Brian shared with us that he found some foil at Michael's in the scrapbooking section.

Thanks Steve & Lynn for your input. Yes-- I just found that my local Joann's Fabric/Craft store carries something similar to what I will need. I will go there tomorrow and check it out. I will keep you all posted on my findings...

I did get some foil at Micheal's and it was on a cardstock which came in handy for the foil windows, they also carry red, gold and silver in the cake decorating isle for wrappers which is more like the foil on the roofs. For the other colors like pink, green, purple, I got some off ebay extremely cheap. I did a little black coconut house a while back that I used the pink on. A tip, is to lightly crinkle it and then flatten it before gluing it on to give it the vintage look.
That is a cool house!! Cant wait to see it restored!!

Thanks Brian for the info sir, especially for windows. I have several "mullions" that need replacement on my pre-war cocos as well. I will go to my local Micheal's and get some there. Yes, I got it pretty cheap too! $14 with S&H included. I scour the internet for deals like this, but it's getting harder to find them though...

You may also consider a product called Bare Metal Foil. It is designed for use on model airplanes and cars. It is an adhesive backed thin foil available in chrome, gold, and maybe black. Products already mentioned may work as well for you, but I thought it couldn't be a bad idea to share with other readers about Bare Metal foil. Google will give you all details for finding and purchasing it.

Oh, the same company also makes metal foil adhesive so if you have foil you wish to adhere to some surface, that may be of use.

I have no financial interest in promoting this product. I have been using the stuff since probably 1980 on model cars and have never considered painting chrome trim since then.

Best of luck with your restoration, and please share pics when you are finished.

Well, here's some more pics of before shots of my project. Roof, chimney, fence, needs repair. The windows as you can tell, were replaced and fortified (those go too). Looks as if a "santa" was located in front yard at one time and the tree there was not the original, so I ripped it out and found a bare spot where a sponge tree probably once stood. Thanks DCrowe for the idea of the chrome, but they had no purple sir! :( Anyways, I found a near match at my local dollar store for only $1! I posted some pics of what it will look like as well by attaching it with a clothesline pin. If anyone had this particular model, PLEASE post a pic of it for my reference if you would so I can get this restoration on the mark. Thanks for everyone chiming in. Well-- here we go!... ;)
