12 Houses of Christmas

Post by Lucy »

I have always wanted to make a series of Putz houses to go on a Christmas wreath like on a Martha Stewart cover from 2014. So I decided to make one a day for the next 12 days.

I based all of them on old Putz houses I found on Papa Ted's site. The first one is from this set of coconut houses which sold for $.89 to $1.49 for the deluxe set https://cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/goldenage.html.

Howard, I am so excited to see what you do with the pattern. It's kind of an interesting shape for a little house. That's why I did that one first.

Ok, here is the next house. It is a simple log cabin putz - a loggie - which I've never made before. I didn't do anything fancy with it, but I still like it a lot.

There's more detail on my blog if you want to read about it - https://paperglitterglue.com/the-little ... ouse-no-2/

Twin Gable Front Putz house is the 3rd house in the 12 Houses for Christmas series. I saw a photo of it on Papa Ted's site under the 1930s coconuts. Because I am trying to make 12 houses in 12 days I am keeping them and their decor pretty simple.

Lots of details on the blog - https://paperglitterglue.com/twin-gable ... challenge/

Let me know what you think.

The fourth Christmas house doesn't have a descriptive name. It is just the Christmas Putz House No. 4 in the 12 Houses for Christmas series. I think this is a pretty popular design. It's also from the vintage 1930s set of coconuts. I had to make it twice because I wasn't happy with the roofline. It's still not exactly what I want, but the second version is better. BUT I like the colors on the first one better. I also wish I put a little window in the top of the gable front. On the second house I added a little door overhang that I like. I got the idea from Howard.

This is such a clever idea Lucy. I know I could never get them done, but I’m anxious to see your finished wreath.

Laurie,
I am trying to make these houses simple with not many windows, for example. I've got to get TWO done tonight. Here is the latest - the little church with the side steeple. I wrote about this one in this blog post - https://paperglitterglue.com/little-chu ... challenge/

I am so glad to see you back on the forum. Which hurricane set you back? It seems like we had so many this year. I hope you are able to make at least one house this year. We have missed you.

Thanks Lucy, how sweet of you. Hurricane Florence messed up our town terribly. Our sailboat had issues but we were so blessed our house did well. So many businesses and friends are still displaced though. Both of the galleries where I sell my jewelry were flooded but are thankfully open again. I hope to make a Santa candy box before Christmas. Even with simple houses I applaud your energy in getting two done in one night. Best wishes.,

The 6th house of the series is the Frosty Barn - a fairly common shape for some vintage Putz houses.

Here is the full tutorial and the pattern on my blog - https://paperglitterglue.com/the-frosty ... utz-house/
