Here's a place to post patterns you want to share, link to patterns you find elsewhere on the internet, and request particular kinds of patterns you're looking for. I've moved a few existing messages here to get the forum started.

2026 Project No. 6 - - Santa in the Chimney Ornament Reproduction

Post by Howard »

Greetings to all,

A few weeks ago, forum member Lynn sent me a picture of a vintage ornament. It captured my interest right away, and I began working on my own version almost immediately. The construction of this project is very simple.

The photos and the PDF contain the information required to make your own ornament. Videos of making bumpy stem Santas are available on the internet if you are not familiar with the technique. Just search “making bumpy stem Santa”.

I have a face mold made from a vintage original, so I cast my own using Durham’s(R) Rock Hard Water Putty. This casting process has been described several times and can be found in the Figures for Putzes and Candy Boxes section on the forum. White felt was used for the beard. Options for the beard include wool rove, mountain mist batting and quilting batting.

Ready-made faces in three sizes are available from Pete Oehmen. He can be contacted at oehmen@sbcglobal.net.

Faces are also offered by the Smile Mercantile Craft Company. Their email address is hello@smilemercantile.com.

Please note that the dimensions of faces from the two sources above may differ slightly from the one I used. Small adjustments to folding, bending and shaping the bumpy stem Santa body may be needed. Also note that I am not affiliated in any way with the products or vendors mentioned and do not receive compensation from them.

Stay tuned and stay creative,

Howard

This was such a fun project. I had some leftover lambs wool I used for the beard. I think I will be tucking him on a shelf come Christmas time.

Thanks so much Howard for the pattern and brick paper!
