First Christmas houses in progress

Not quite finished with these houses. I am trying to do a more traditional putz house particularly with the fence. I am not good with colors that's why I have all these illustrations marked on my pinterest site for color inspiration. I made the base a yellow that became kind of muddy when I mixed it with sand and then glitter. The green is also too dark. I'll have to rely on Snow-tex to save me.

We had a wreath-making party recently so I was able to get a lot of empty ribbon rolls - the perfect size for the Christmas candy corn base.

Finished the blue house. I'm pretty happy with it. I always get a few blobs of paint where it doesn't belong and then the fence looks like someone had a snowball fight around it, but overall it looks pretty good.

People on the forum seemed pretty excited about making a die to cut out houses except for the expense. I wonder if we could make our own dies with wood, a jigsaw and the sturdy piece of metal to go around the cutout house on wood. You'd have to make it the appropriate thickness to run through your die cutter (sizzix in my case).

I may go with an electronic cutter one of these days, but I just get so tired of electronic stuff (printers, in particular) that only works for a little while and then you have to throw it away because it's useless. Also, I actually like the variability that doing it mostly by hand gives you. You know, like listening to live music vs. really polished studio stuff.

The village displays on the forum are incredible. I hope everyone is having a wonderful and healthy holiday season. Lucy

Two more finished from the same pattern. I mixed the paint on the green house with sand to make it look like plaster. The second house is based on the steampunk metallic, industrial style and is called (no surprise) "Steampunk Christmas House". One of my coworkers specifically asked for one after she saw the Steampunk Halloween house. This house is shown with lights inside.
