Building the Single Peak Dolly House

Here's a place to post patterns you want to share, link to patterns you find elsewhere on the internet, and request particular kinds of patterns you're looking for. I've moved a few existing messages here to get the forum started.

Building the Single Peak Dolly House

Post by Lynn »

Howard and I have been working closely putting together patterns including the doors and windows for the Dolly Houses. The first pattern is for the single Dolly house. There are plans in the works for additional patterns for more houses.

I can't take credit for the doors and windows, a dear friend of mine recreated these right from images of the originals, touching up as needed. I want to thank Howard for his enormous efforts putting this all together, he has done and incredible job!!

Thanks so much Howard and Lynn. These are great. I made patterns from three of the houses that I have, but I don't have the pattern for this house and I wanted to make sure it matched the others. Guess what I'll be doing this weekend?

greetings to all...

thanks to lynn, dolly house reproductions are at the top of my to do list...the list seems to get longer, too...hope to have and entire dolly village by next christmas...

here's my version of her single peak house...but i put mine on a raised base with the quaint fence with gate detail and used extra fine colored glitter in place of mica flakes...other than that...it's the same...windows, door, tree, etc...

my very best regards...howard...

Howard, I wondered if you would use your extra fine glitter assortment on these. It gives the house a whole different feel. Your fence turned out really well. I just finished my house and will post it soon.

I love the Dolly houses. It is so interesting to see different interpretations. The Dolly fence is very nice as well, but what about the staples? Don't the Dollies on a base always have staples showing?

Ok, from a technique standpoint - did you paint the house the same color as the glitter and then glitter or did you let the glitter provide all the color? And also, do ya'll have any hints on glittering evenly? I always have bald spots. It drives me crazy.

Great job on these houses. They are wonderful.

Lucy...

staples?...i'll have to let a collector of dolly houses answer that question...i've never seen an actual dolly house...so i wouldn't know...

color paint under glitter?...yes...i do paint a color that is close or similar...but i don't try to match the glitter color exactly...

applying glitter with no "bald spots"?...it happens to all of us i'll bet...i try to glitter only one side or area at a time...then wait a while before going onto a side or surface that touches one that is not completely dry...(note...i do break out the hair dryer to speed things up occasionally)...then go back and fill in what i missed...and i do miss areas...

my very best regards...howard

Howard,

I was teasing you about the staples. I looked it up on the archived portion of Papa Teds site http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/WWII.html and it's actually the Colmor houses that have the staples. They drive me crazy. Don't add staples.

I wondered about doing one side at a time. It's so funny, I find myself being very patient about some things and then just rushing through others.

I think doing one side at a time and a paint stick are what I need to get better at glittering and eliminate the bald spots.

Thank you. Lucy
