Tree House-12/04 house of month-little glitter house version

Post by Howard »

Greetings to all...

After a less than successful start on making a "little glitter house" version the December 2004 House Of The Month...(also known as the "Tree House")...Tom Hull...owner of the vintage original...came to my aid with drawings and construction details...I thank him for the help...

Here's a link to the vintage original...scroll down to the very last of the link...

http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/Hom2004.html

My "little glitter house" version is not an exact copy...colors, textures and some details do vary from the original...but it has the basic look and feel...

Earlier this year I was also fortunate enough to obtain an unfinished figurine...this was the last piece I needed...I painted him in a style that reflects the look of the original...but added gold buttons to the suit front, sleeve cuffs and sides of the high top shoes....

The raffia fence was made on the jig I assembled a while back...here is a link to the topic...

http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forum ... ?f=4&t=461

The raffia fence sections were hand stitched with a needle and ordinary waxed dental floss after they came out of the jig...I punched a series of small holes about 1/8" apart through the raffia and cardboard backing first...

I followed a technique that is similar to what Brian Bloodgood posted a while back...he "aged" some new raffia fence he made with color markers...I used diluted craft in camouflage colors to "age" mine...

A few more things...

House finish is natural color bird cage gravel over a medium brown paint...

Homemade coconut covers the roofs...the snow is bleached homemade coconut and highlighted with "Snow-Tex"...

Base and fence posts are covered with white craft sand with a few specks of black glitter...

Total height is about 5" including the base...base measures approximately 4" x 6" x 3/4" thick...

Now...on to another project... ;)

My very best regards...Howard...

If Howard found this one challenging--and he did--I'm not going near it---I'm more likely to buy than try, lolololol.

Looks WONDERFUL!! Very reminiscent of the original, Im sure it will make everyone want to take a second look or seek out your inspiration. I love how you painted the figure!! The whole piece has a really neat Hobbit feel to it! :) Really LOVE this one!! :)

Will is finding treasures all throughout the website. I have looked at this house and thought about making it, but I'm pretty much with Maria "if Howard found it challenging -- and he did -- I'm not going near it." I think it is skewed on the base as well as having all those roof inserts, making it doubly difficult.

Still I really like re-visiting these beautiful reproductions.

Yes Lucy, I went through every page of this forum over the last few days and was so impressed with what I had found! I love a good challenge and i'll go for it if I can get some good specs on this project. :)
