KITCHEN 2017, HOMAGE TO THE NATIONAL CHRISTMAS MUSEUM

Please use this forum for photos of your putz villages - some of you don't make your own houses, but you still display a lot of artistry when you combine and arrange them. And the rest of us would love to see your work. Again, it works best if you resize your photos to 800px wide or less before you upload them - Paul

KITCHEN 2017, HOMAGE TO THE NATIONAL CHRISTMAS MUSEUM

Post by maria »

With the news that the National Christmas Center may be closing in 2018, I wanted to do a "homage" to it and Woolworth--the sign and price labels are fake--everything else is vintage and authentic with the exception of the Santa and choir boy candles--these are reproductions by TWO'S COMPANY--and the tin of "old fashioned" candy. Two photos below.

Maria...

"Dime Store Perfection!"...Those price tags are a neat idea!...

And what a shame that the center is closing...guess it's just a sign of the times...just like the disappearance of the Sears "Wish Book" and all the other catalogs...everything has it's season...thank goodness little house are still alive and well!...

Merry Christmas...

I have never had the pleasure of visiting Maria - guess I'll miss out but if your 'homage' is any indication, it must be a very nice place to visit. Oh well!

I actually had the Santa on the trike on the bottom right corner when I was a child - probably got sold at a flea market for 50 cents LoL.

Thx for sharing Maria!

Thank you both. I am especially fond of the vintage toy cash register and the tray of vintage Christmas pins--all of which I got at a local church sale for a song....by the way I am attaching the file to make the woolworth sign--it can be printed on 8 X 11 paper--I aged mine, post printout--with a frame purchased at the dollar store, some white paint and shoe polish applied with a sponge

I was thrilled to find three vintage Christmas cardboard horns and a box of old fashioned ribbon candy(!) to complete the scene--along with a tiny red Lefton angel!

What a great tribute to the National Christmas Museum! It's a lovely display. Do they have a lot of putz houses in the museum? I was thinking about making a last minute trip if they do.

What a fun display. And you can just keep adding to it every year. I've always loved the picture of the 50s Woolworth Store. I remember shopping at one and every Christmas saving up my pennies to buy another figure for my nativity. The long, worn wooden floors are a pleasant memory also. Thanks for sharing Maria.
