2026 Project No. 8 — Scalloped-Topped, Oblique-Wall House with Deer

It’s going to be June very soon, and it’s time for another Little Glitter House project. Like most of the houses I build, this one was inspired by a picture of a vintage house I saw on the internet.

Since the building uses all the construction details I’ve outlined for many years now, I’ll let the picture of the raw cardboard stage and the PDF pattern tell the story.

When I post the picture of the finished house, you’ll see that I added 1/4-inch-wide strips of single-face cardboard around the base of the house walls and just below the scalloped edges of the roofline.

I thought the area on the oblique-wall side would be a nice place for a deer figurine, so I used a Tim Holtz plastic one. Before finishing it with craft paint and a few final coats of high-gloss clear polyacrylic, I gave the deer a coat of gray spray primer. I also attached the deer to a small, free-form oval of heavy-duty poster board with super glue. This made it easy to hold while painting and provided a substantial gluing surface when attaching it to the base.

There will also be a small bottle-brush tree on the opposite side of the base from the deer. For some color, I added colored glass beads with a dab of tacky glue. I have since learned that small glass beads without holes are available. They would be ideal, but from a viewing distance, the small holes are not really an issue.
